Welcome to Pyingerra Park
Established in 1991 Pyingerra Park is considered one of the most successful thoroughbred training establishments in Australia.
Pyingerra Park, situated at Clyde North, and was named after the street in Cheltenham where the Hyland family grew up.
“Pyingerra” is Aboriginal, meaning “a meeting place of the Pines”. Pat and Maree transformed 85 acres of land with little more than a cottage and a damaged rose growing business on it, into a Thoroughbred Training Centre, building three barns with 41 boxes, 35 open paddocks and a 1600m dirt track.
Hyland trained horses spend their day in the paddocks and are only stabled at night, giving them a natural, clean environment. This style is similar to that of the New Zealand way of training, something Pat learned when he was riding Kiwi horses.
“NZ Trainers taught us a lot when they started bringing their stayers here for the cups, the horses were all lovely and relaxed because their trainers kept them as close to nature as possible. They had happy horses and I knew then that when I started to train that’s the way I would do it.”
